The Magic of Mosaic

This week I thought I would share my mosaic birdbath via Creative Every Day and Inspire Me Monday. It relates to the "one" theme of CED in a couple of ways - it was my first attempt at a mosaic and it is totally unique, the only one exactly like it on the planet... :-)

I had such a beautiful time with this project. It was extremely time consuming but the process of gluing the tiles into the design was so relaxing, almost meditative!

I bought a plain terracotta birdbath to start with and then a whole lot of colourful tiles from the local hardware shop. I had quite good fun smashing them up! I also found some sets of little square tiles in all kinds of colours, as well as some coloured round stones from home as well. So it didn't really cost much to make, it just needed alot of time and some patience.

I am really pleased with the outcome! It makes me happy every time I look at it, so bright and colourful.

I have had to secure the top onto the base as sadly not long after it's completion my cat Maya (bless her) jumped up onto it, the top fell off, landed on the base and smashed it. My heart sank for a moment but it was nothing a bit of glue and black paint couldn't fix.

I am really looking forward to doing another mosaic project soon, when I have the spare time. Perhaps a nice big garden pot or something could be fun. I have also seen some amazing mosaic mirrors as well which could be an awesome challenge.

Hope everyone has a magical, joyful and creative week!!

  2. Beautiful work! It must have taken you a long time to complete it.

  3. Wow--that looks great! I love the design, especially on the base. I've always wanted to try mosaic, and have seen some of the mirrors you mentioned...really could do it!

  4. This is a lovely amazing creation!! What fun it must have been. You've convinced me to try it myself!! I've always wanted to and you had me at smashing up the tiles!! Grateful for your inspiration!!

  5. OMG! Your first mosaic project? Amazing. The colors, the designs are so very fabulous!

  6. This turned out beautiful.
I'm hoping to get a 'mosaic' bistro table done in the next 1-4 weeks. I bought a cast iron table base. I'll get you a link when I post it.
Have a great week and I look forward to your next project. :)

  7. OMG... you created this mosaic?!? It's GOR-GEOUS!! You certainly made it sound like fun. Love the fabulous design and the colors you chose. So so beautiful. xoxo

  8. I am so impressed! How much planning for the design did you have to do ahead of time? I don't know that I have the patience for this, but you make it look so enticing!

    1. Not much planning to be honest, I pencilled the circle pattern on the bath and the swirl on the base and then it was fairly random with colours and shapes. It does take some patience but I just chipped away at it over a couple of months. Good fun.
